Yes, as far as I know it was black.
One slight question regarding this portrait - what is the colour of that Locotenent's tunic collar? As far as collar patches are nearly invisible I suppose it's black?

Sublocotenent of mountain troops (Vânători de Munte). Dark green collar patches practically invisible on the collar.
The 1881 to 1932 version had also swords, the military version has swards
Ordinul “Coroana României” în grad de Ofiţer is clearly visible. But what type of issue it is? The absence of crown signifies pre-1932 verison, am I right? At the same time there are crossed swords instituted on February 22, 1938. Your verdict, Mircea?
No.2 is Medalia "Răsplata Serviciului Militar" for NCO's (maybe 15 years)
And is there a slightest chance to ID his ribbons?
Judging by the patch on his officers cap with an embroidered hunting horn, he must be from Vânători de Munte (Mountain Hunters)
Here's next big sized photo of a Locotenent-Colonel with his wife.
What can be added to the description?
Col. Mihail Zanfirescu 3273i33/8 VIII Sămb/C?(or 6) Buv.!. (??? I have no idea what the numbers and strange letters may be )
Scan of the backside. Dedication states this officer is Colonel though his shoulder boards indicate lower rank.
Could you please give full translation of these writings?

yes, but by 1914 this uniform was worn exclusively as an parade uniform.
Am I right assuming that here's a Capitan de vanatori in mica tinuta (M1877 unifrom)? He's awarded Ordinul Coroana Romaniei in grad de Cavaler 1st Model (1881).
Usually, numbers on epaulettes mean number of the regiment, in this case 2nd Vânători Regiment
Could you please let me know what is that strange device on his epaulettes (I marked it with a red arrow)? It looks like "2" numeral, maybe it's a designation of his unit?
15 August 1914/ În semn de sinceră iubire/ Căpitan Georgescu/ D-lui Jean Demetriade/ Agronom
And could you provide a translation, please?

yes type II, Cavaler was silver color and Ofițer was gold color.
Maior de vanatori.
1. Ordinul ”Coroana României” cu spade in grad de Ofiţer. II type (1932)?
May be different classes, Cavaler was silver color and Ofițer was gold color.
2. Ordinul ”Steaua României” cu spade in grad de Cavaler.
3. Ordinul ”Steaua României” cu spade in grad de Cavaler.
4. Wound chevron on the upper left sleeve.
They may be different classes, and also they may be received one in the Eastern campaign and the other in Western campaign.
And couple of questions regarding this portrait:
- Why two Steaua Romвniei orders are worn simultaneously? By the way are they of the same class and type?
- Is it M34 uniform he wears?

The rosette is called in Romanian ”panglică (rozetă) de virtute militară” and was awarded to all classes, as far as I know, if the recipient obtained the award as a result of direct contact with the enrmy.
Mircea, let me ask a couple of questions regarding this portrait:
1. Could Ordinul Steaua Romaniei be awarded twice for different merits like it was in the USSR?
2. As far as I understand Officer's cross had a rosette on the ribbon, so here we have two similar Knight's crosses! Am I right?

I do not know, but I do not see why not.
Mircea, I'm a bit confused...
Could Ordinul Steaua Romaniei be awarded twice for different merits or not?
In the previous answer ( Post #19 http://forum.blockha...p...t&p=273367) I said ”may be”, I meant that the difference is in the color and in black&white photos it is impossible to determine if it is silver or gold color.
As for that photo - do you mean to say he has two Ordinul Steaua Romaniei - Officer's and Knight's orders? Or two Knights?

Mircea, here's an interesting portrait of a Locotenent de Vanatori from the Regimentul 9 Vanatori "Regele Alexandru I al Sarbilor, Slovenilor si Croatilor" in a parade uniform. Am I right?
Badge - is an Vânători pin.
What are his awards - medal and certain badge in form of Jagers' horn? What type of uniform he wears - M1877? Any ideas on the period of this portrait?
