- Were there any special ranks within Romanian Red Cross?
- Any guess on his awards?

I got answer from the reenactors.

Both men from the portraits are ”Medic” (doctor), which makes his branch of service: Ambulanță

First portrait:
Collar tabs are M1941, this model was as followed:
Red enamel crosses mounted on collar tabs coloured in the specific branch colour (red, blue, green)

Second portrait:
Collar tabs are M1931, this model was as followed:
Medicii (Doctors) - Red Cross
Veterinarii (Veterinarians) - Blue Cross
Farmacistii (Pharmacists) - Green Cross

As far as I understand both men were medical officers within Royal Armed Forces, not members of the Romanian Red Cross? If so the thread title is incorrect - it should be "Army medics and Romanian Red Cross". If you agree I'll rename the thread. Please give me the correct title in Romanian similar to the one I just offered.

His correct branch name is Serviciul Sanitar si Veterinar (The Sanitary and Veterinary Service),
with the two subbranches, 1.Ambulanță Sanitară (for human medicine) and 2.Ambulanță Veterinară for animal (veterinarian) medicine.
Red Cross is not a military organization, it is civil organization, in Romanian Army was no military branch called Red Cross.

And couple of questions regarding two portraits:
First portrait:
- What is his exact branch of service then? Red enamel cross on tabs of what colour? Red on red wouldn't be so contrasted as it is, so green or blue?
- Any ideas on his awards from the ribbon bar?

Reenacrors said that he is an doctor, that means red enamel cross on red collar tabs, the enamel on the red cross deflects the light and it seems that the color is lighter.

Second portrait:
- Do you think the collar of the Cross is red?
- Does this Major wear M34 uniform and visor cap?

Yes, red cross and M1934 uniform and cap.

Let's update this thread with a quite unusual item - CDV from the end of the XIX century or the very beginning of the XX century :crybaby:

I assume here we have Locotenent medic (or Locotenent veterinar) in mica tinuta (M1877 uniform). Am I right and what can be added to description?

Yes, you are right :10: , I can't add anything.

"Gh. (?) Ghiorghiu, medic veterinar. Decedat la 6 Juniu 1906". Have I read correctly?

:10: :27:

Mircea, and what is that letter between "Gh" and "Ghiorghiu"?

It is not an letter, the author is a little bit of an artist, and in the empty space he made a little drawing (pattern) that means nothing.

Thanks, Mircea! And what about the crown device on his shoulder boards? What it stands for? There's no crown on the other portraits discussed here.

The crown stands for ”însemn Batalion Gardă Regală” (Royal Guard Battalion insignia).

Mircea, do you mean to say that Capitan from the photo served as medical officer within the ranks of that battalion?

Yes

And what about his aiguillette then? What it stands for?

I have new information about this subject, from the book ”Uniformele Armatei Române from XIX century to 1945 by Cristian Vlădescu”

The eghilet (aiguillette) was worn on the right shoulder, at every uniform, by the following:

aghiotant (aide-de-camp)
adjutant (adjutant)
ofițer de intendență (quartermaster officer)
ofițer de stat major (staff officer)
jadarm (gendarme)
grănicer (border guard)
gardă regală (royal guard)

The furajera (fourragere) was worn on the left shoulder, means that his unit was awarded one of the following awards: Ordinul Mihai Viteazul, Ordinul Virtutea Militara, Ordinul Virtutea Aeronautica or Ordinul Steaua Romaniei.
